Mold Swab Sample Analysis
For a mold spot that’s too wet or too hard to reach for a tape lift.
What it finds
When a spot is too wet or too hard to reach for a tape lift, a swab still tells you what it is. Swab a little of the growth and send it back. The lab reads the swab directly under the microscope, with no culture step, and identifies the spores and mold threads it picked up down to the genus. It is targeted, not a whole-home screen: it tells you which mold genus is on that one spot.

When to order
Use the swab only when the spot is too wet for tape to stick or too hard to reach. Otherwise, the Mold Tape Lift is the better sample. Either one answers a different question than a dust DNA test: not what is in the home in general, but what is this, right here. Do not open walls or disturb insulation or old ceiling tiles to get a sample; if the growth is inside a wall or bigger than about 10 square feet, call a pro.
